Product Information

Used to help smokers ready to stop smoking immediately and smokers who need to cut down their cigarette use before stopping. It can also be used during times when you cannot smoke.

Nicorette 2 mg Gum can sometimes be used in combination with Nicorette Invisi 10 mg and 15 mg Patch for the treatment of tobacco dependence as part of a stop smoking programme.

Not for sale or use by persons under 18. If you need advice before starting to use this product talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.  

How to use this product

You are more likely to quit smoking when using this product with help from your pharmacist, doctor, a trained counsellor or a support programme. For further information please ring the national smokers quitline on 1800 201 203 or visit www.quit.ie.

Follow the Nicorette chewing technique and read the leaflet carefully before starting to use the product.

Nicorette chewing technique: 1. Chew slowly until taste becomes strong. 2. Rest between gum and cheek. 3. Chew again until taste has faded.

Chew one piece when you feel the urge to smoke. Do not use more than 15 pieces a day.  Warning: Do not exceed the stated dose. Do not swallow.

Do not use: 

• if you are allergic to nicotine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine, 
• if pregnant or breast-feeding unless advised by your doctor,
  
• if you are a non-smoker or are under 18 years of age.

If you need any advice before starting to use this product, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.   In particular discuss if you are on any other medication or have other medical conditions. 

Ingredients

Active ingredient:  2 milligrams (mg) of nicotine per piece of gum.
Other ingredients are chewing gum base (contains butylated hydroxytoluene (E321)), sorbitol (E420), sodium carbonate anhydrous, flavour, glycerol (E422), sodium hydrogen carbonate and talc.

Each 2mg gum contains 202 mg sorbitol (Nicorette Freshmint Gum, Nicorette Freshfruit Gum and Nicorette Icy White Gum do not contain
sorbitol).  
The chewing gum base contains butylated hydroxytoluene. This may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) or irritation to the eyes and mucous membranes.

Nicorette Gums do not contain sugar (sucrose) or animal products.

Further Information

Keep Nicorette Gum out of sight and reach of children and animals.  Dispose of Nicorette Gum sensibly.

Do not store Nicorette Gum above 25°C.

If you are gradually replacing some of your cigarettes with Nicorette gum and an attempt to stop smoking completely has not been made after 6 months, ask your doctor nurse or pharmacist for advice.

Talk to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist before using Nicorette Gum: 
- if you are in hospital because of heart disease (including heart attack, disorders of heart rate or rhythm, or stroke).
- if you have high blood pressure, bad circulation.
- if you have persistent indigestion or pains in the chest.
- if you have a stomach ulcer, duodenal ulcer, inflammation of the stomach or inflammation of the oesophagus (passage between the mouth and stomach).
- if you have liver or kidney disease.
- if you have an overactive thyroid gland or have a phaeochromocytoma (a tumour of the adrenal gland that can affect blood pressure) – your doctor will have told you this.
- if you have diabetes – monitor your blood sugar levels more often when starting to use Nicorette Gum as you may find your insulin or medication requirements alter.
